The Office Cat Woman Strikes Again

It had been a while since anyone had asked me any questions about cats. I had forgotten how many people thought of me as the Office Cat Woman. Sure, I had many pictures of cats at my workstation but I had gotten used to seeing them everyday and no longer noticed that I was probably the only person on the floor who had so many animal pictures on their desk.

Working away this morning, I heard someone say behind me, “What cat should I get for my daughter?”

I spun around and saw one of the managers behind me. He asked me what breed I would suggest getting for his young daughter. I came up with the Siamese, Burmese and Tonkinese. “They are good with children because they like interacting with people but because of that, they are not good on their own so if you were to get one of them, you would need to get two,” was my explanation.

The manager said he wanted to get a Russian Blue. He asked me if I knew about their suitability for children.

“I don’t know but I can find out for you as I have a cat book at home that gives a child friendly rating for each breed so I can look it up for you if you want,” I said. The manager thanked me for my help so guess what I will be doing tonight?

The Mysterious Phone Call Part 2

The mysterious caller keeps calling. Each time I have returned their call I get a voice message saying I have contacted Animal Charity X before the line goes dead. Even weirder was when they rang while I was at work. I answered the phone but there was no one on the other end. I waited a few seconds but there was no answer to my hellos so I hung up.

A few days after that, my phone rang again. I saw their number on my call display and I reached for the phone but they rang off after one ring. WTF? A few days later, they rang again. I answered the phone, expecting a phantom phone call so I was pleasantly surprised to get a voice on the other end asking for me. The person explained what his charity did and told me about the number of animals being abused here and overseas. He then asked me if he could organise a direct debit to my bank account. I told him that I was not comfortable with giving my account details over the phone and asked him to send me the paper work instead. He agreed. Now, I am waiting for the letter to arrive any day in the post.

Armed with my latest Erin Hunter cat novel, I headed for the Royal Botanic Gardens one afternoon for a quiet place to sit and read. I had been there for about half an hour when I noticed a man and a woman walking up to where I was. I was not pleased. I had chosen this particular spot for its solitude and did not want to be disturbed.

The couple started to stand together kissing while another man turned up and started photographing them. Click, click. On and on it went. I was surprised the professional photographer didn’t ask me to move. Several photos later, the woman stopped to examine the photos on the camera.

“Aren’t they great?” asked the photographer. “You couldn’t even see a dead cat in that picture.”

WTF? What a tasteless comment. I went back to reading, hoping they would be done soon. When it was obviously they were intent on staying, I decided to go elsewhere. Butterscotch and Gingersnap would not be pleased if they knew I had been sitting near a cat hater.

Ahhh, another one of those demotivational posters. Except this one is about cats. As funny as it is, I have one objection: CATS ARE NOT STUPID! If you don’t believe me, just check out Butterscotch and Gingersnap in action.
