Quirky Folk - January 2011

One Dreary Weekend

January 31st 2011 21:00

It was the last Saturday of the Sydney Festival. Opera was going to be held at the Domain. I went home to read the paper and rest my legs before venturing out to watch the opera. And then I came across this story HERE .

I am so angry I could cry. I keep looking at photos of Butterscotch and Gingersnap, imagining them as 4 month old kittens being thrown off the roof.

This is a funny thing about me: because I don't like people, when I read about bad things happening to them they don't bother me much. But if I read about animal cruelty, I get very upset.

It's been over twenty four hours since I read that story in the paper and I am still upset. I think the kitten killer deserves a harsher sentence. And I couldn't give a toss about her pregnancy. I only pity the child she is about to bring into the world and wonder what kind of mother she would make.

Update

The kitten killer has been evicted from her housing commission unit HERE. Serves her right. I am still angry about that little kitten who had to die due to people like her.

I still think about the cat that was microwaved to death in an oven and that happened three years ago.

Facebook Testing

January 30th 2011 21:00

Sitting home in front of the telly last night, I received this message from Brett: “I’m going to put up a message about my cats on Facebook. Don’t respond as I want to see who else does. Thanks.”

What is this? Some kind of test to see how many of his 900 (and still counting) friends will give Butterscotch and Gingersnap a home for ten days? I don’t know why he hasn’t taken up my offer: After all, I have a friend who can take them.

I then logged onto Facebook today. To my surprise, I noticed Vicky didn’t come running. Then I remembered another of Brett’s friends who was also a cat lover didn’t respond either. Of course, they could have sent him private messages but still…

OK, so This is Pretty Stupid

January 27th 2011 21:00

No, I have not been hiding under a rock. But yes, I have been snowed under with work so apologies for this late post. As they say, better late than never.

This had me chuckling at the stupidity of some people. I love the quote from the cat parent where she says what is the cat supposed to say? Miaow?

I know some people such as my friend Rachel consider cats to be practically human but I think this story is taking things too far: HERE

What’s next? Jury duty for dogs?

Sizzling Swizzle

Now that it’s summer, there’s not much action coming from Swizzle the cat. It just sleeps all day long. Here’s a recent shot of Swizzle doing what comes naturally:

What is with these animals who like to channel those flat pressed ducks you see in Chinatown? First, Monty the dog gets in on the act, followed by Butterscotch. Now the GTC is doing it (see below):
