Quirky Folk - October 2011

Rachael Hale Bookmark

October 31st 2011 21:00

Another purchase. I was going to get the other Rachael Hale cat bookmarks but I decided to just stick to this one since times are tough. And I’m glad I did as I was under the impression it was made out of metal, kind of like a bulldog clip. It looked durable enough in the package.

But when I opened it up after purchasing it, I was disappointed to find it was a piece of paper with Snickers the cat printed on it and then had two magnets attached underneath it. Sure, the paper was coated in shiny plastic but I was hoping to get a lot of use out of the bookmark but given that it is made out of paper and magnets, it could easily wear out.

At least it was only $3.99. And Snickers is easy on the eye.

Calendar Time

October 30th 2011 21:00

It’s that time of the year again. For you it’s most likely the start of Christmas shopping. For me, it’s calendar shopping.

Previously, my first preview of calendars was at Borders. After visiting Borders’ Chatswood store, I would go to the Nexta newsagent and have a browse at their large selection of calendars before going to the Calendar Club stalls.

Now that I no longer go to Chatswood, my first calendar preview was at a card shop in the Queen Victoria Building. And here it is. Not a bad start to my annual calendar collecting. The Rachael Hale ones are next.

That’s it. No More Boys.

October 27th 2011 21:00

I finally got my update on the boys. Not that it was much of an update.

“They’re now hers,” said Brett, referring to the vet who adopted them. “I’ve cut myself off from them. I love them. They were a big part of my life and now they’re hers and I’ve had to cut myself off from them."

I was not happy to hear this. Of course I knew that Brett had adopted them out but I had secretly harboured hopes that one day I would be reunited with Butterscotch and Gingersnap, especially when Brett had told me she was looking after them until she could find a permanent home for them. And that permanent home was my friend’s, who Brett had assured me was at the front of the queue.

On the other hand, I could understand him not wanting to uproot them again, especially when they had become friends with the vet’s Labrador. The image of the three of them napping together is cute enough to put on a box of Kleenex tissues. Hey, maybe I should suggest that.

Another Stressful day out Shopping

October 23rd 2011 21:00

Regular readers of this blog would probably be under the impression that I enjoy shopping, if the number of cat books I have bought over the years is anything to go by (no pun intended). Actually, I don’t. Like many consumers who are jumping onto the online ship, I am getting fed up with the poor or lack of service in traditional bricks and mortar shops. I also hate it when sales assistants monitor your movements. For example, one lady decided to pick a fight with me over the fact I had tried on an outfit twice in her shop. She claimed that I had tried it on four times and had come into her shop every single week over a two month period. None of it was true and even if it was, so what? I did what my psychologist friend calls the silent protest by turning on my heel and walking out. I also made a complaint to the shopping centre.

Where is Brett?

October 17th 2011 21:00

What a bummer of a night it was. Last Saturday, Brett and I and a couple of friends went out to see a live band. Brett and I were catching up on all the goss while we waited for our friends’ band to come on.

The Tailless Tortie has Gone

October 13th 2011 21:00
Another disappearance in the feline neighbourhood of my world: the Tailless Tortie has gone. I have not seen this cat for over a month. What a shame. After spending a week setting up home next to the Grouchy Tuxedo Cat’s current resting spot, the TT has gone. Long gone. I wouldn’t be surprised if the temperamental GTC kicked her out.

Now it’s back to the old days when it was just the GTC who ruled the kingdom where the stairs are. Talk about being territorial and anti-social. I mean, just look at this pose:

My Other Husband

October 10th 2011 21:01

Just check out how gorgeous the Blue Bird of Paradise is. The squawking and humming sounds he makes are so weird; they’re almost dog-like. Why can’t human females be granted similar courtship displays? Instead we have to deal with sleazy and unoriginal chat up lines. Surely with the so-called superiority of the human race men can think of something more original and while they’re there, update their wardrobe as well. It’s not fair on us girls to do all the frigging work.

Kitten in 3-D Book

October 9th 2011 21:00

I now have my eye on a 3D kitten book HERE. It comes complete with 3D glasses. I wonder if the cats will look as good in 3D as the M.C. Escher birds mentioned in my earlier post.

My First Vet Visit

October 6th 2011 21:00

When I realised I had lost my Android over the weekend, I was nowhere near a phone booth. The reason why I needed one when I have a mobile was I needed the Telstra number for directory assistance so I could call all the shops I had been to to see if it had turned up at one of them.
