Quirky Folk - February 2012

Two Dogs

February 29th 2012 21:00

Now don’t say I hate dogs. I recently spotted these two lovelies while shopping in Paddington. The Samoyed was friendly, attracting a few people to stroke it (including me). The other dog was as camera shy as Gingersnap. No matter how hard I tried to get a full frontal shot of it, it kept turning its face away.

Grey One is another camera shy cat. After watching her several times, I realise she will look ahead if someone or a car passes by. That’s when I am able to get a shot of her lovely feline face. I have to be persistent but it pays off in the end.

Almost Bitten (Again)

February 28th 2012 21:00

I can’t believe this. Normally the GTC will approach me if she wants to be stroked. If she’s in a bad mood, she will ignore me.

Today began like any other day. I said hello to her. She got up and moved towards me, miaowing several times. I stroked her a few times. She kept miaowing which I took to be a signal to continue. I went back to stroking her. This time she bared her teeth. I snatched my hand away.

What is this? Some kind of trap to hurt me? Bad cat. Nasty cat.

Grey One’s Still Here

February 27th 2012 21:00

The day after I noticed Grey One’s home was empty, I went searching for her. I went over there in the morning but there was no cat. I did see a woman inside the house looking at me and I quickly went away in case she thought I was spying on her.

I returned that afternoon. Still no sign of Grey One. I tried again in the evening. At the sound of my first mouse squeak, I heard rustling in the bushes and there she was. She miaowed several times before moving towards the gate. I got to stroke her on the areas she likes: the side of her jaw, underneath her jaw and around her neck. She later lifted her head upwards so she could head butt me. She also started purring. See, she does like me. I am trying to enjoy each moment while I can.

This is Doing my Head in

February 22nd 2012 21:00

Over a year ago I got a Facebook friends request from Vicky, a muso friend of Brett’s. At first, I could see her profile just as she could see mine. Then, slowly over time, I could see less and less of her profile. She also stopped replying to my emails, even though she was the one who started contacting me in the first place and inviting me to her gigs. When I gently broached the subject, she said it was because she was being hassled by someone. Fair enough. After all, Brett aside, she hardly knows me. That said, why send me a friends request in the first place?

School Days

February 19th 2012 21:00

Back in high school, misfit me hung around the other misfits. We were misfits because we listened to music no one else seemed to be listening to: punk, ska, indie, alternative and, in my case, funk, house, soul and disco (which led to me meeting Brett just after I finished my HSC but that’s another story). Our motto was: The more obscure our tastes in music were, the better. We watched the Young Ones and read Sylvia Plath.

Stupidity

February 15th 2012 21:00

During Calendar Club’s final week of operation, I was at their Broadway store. I was deciding which calendars to buy now that they were forty per cent off when I noticed a man appeared to be dropping a two dollar coin. At first I chuckled, thinking that I wasn’t the only clumsy (or “physically challenged” as I prefer to say) person in the world. After this happened three times I started to wonder how someone could be so clumsy. I then heard laughter coming from above me. I looked up and saw a teenage girl standing near the railing of the floor above us. I then realised he wasn’t dropping the coin – he was trying to toss it to the teenage girl, who kept missing it.

Curiosity Killed the cat

February 12th 2012 21:00

I wish some people would learn to mind their own business. Here I was, standing in a secluded spot just outside Chatswood Chase shopping centre while I was surfing the net. Out of the blue, a woman approaches me.
