Animal Ark Novels

As a socially awkward person, I find I spend more time with animals than people. I also spend most of my time reading. One weekend, I was mentally preparing myself for a tough week ahead of me. For a whole week my team at work would be down two people, meaning my colleague and I had to do two people’s work. I wasn’t looking forward to this and I was feeling sad, especially since I had just finished reading some books about dying animals. I needed something that tugged at my heart strings. Since I love bookshops, I will wander through almost every single aisle except for the business and sport sections. In the children’s section I found a book with a lovely Siamese cat on the cover. It was part of the Animal Ark series. I ended up buying two of them. They were about – you guessed it – cats. One was called Siamese in the Sun and the other, Tabby in the Tub. In a nutshell, the novels centre on a girl called Mandy, whose dream is to become a vet; her best friend James and their various adventures in helping animals. Even though they were written for a much younger audience, I still found them enjoyable. What impressed me was the amount of veterinary information mentioned in each novel. Not only were the novels entertaining but they were also informative. The only thing I was disappointed about was the lack of information about desexing animals. I found it odd that the second book had a plot about Mandy trying to find homes for some kittens and her veterinarian parents not recommending the owner have her mother cat desexed. Maybe the author or the publisher thought this would be far too mature for their target audience.
