Being a Scab

One of the best things about shopping at Westfield Bondi Junction is getting to sample free food. It seems to happen a lot on the first floor where you can go to the David Jones food hall and sample anything from gourmet chocolates to muesli. Towards the other end of the same floor, right near the deli, is where I can get free banana bread. Occasionally I will find free lollies, popcorn, juice, sorbet, fried chicken and garlic bread.
Then you can head for the fifth floor where T2 is located. There you can sample free cold and hot teas as well as jam and bread.
So technically this must make me a freegan as often I will be feeling peckish so I will deliberately wander into those areas just to get a free feed. Recently one lady let me sample several of her muesli varieties.
“I’m a pig,” I warned her. “If you say I can have it, I will eat it.” She didn’t seem to mind. But one night I was shopping at Kinokuniya and noticed there was a tray of leftover sushi where they were launching a new art exhibition. A guy was there who was trying to clear the tables. I looked at the sushi and he offered it to me so I sampled one of them, even though they were all seafood rolls. It tasted much better than I expected to I kept going. I must have eaten at least five of them before some smart alec said, “Look at her. She keeps going.”
I looked at him and said, “Well, they’re about to go in the bin.” He then resumed his conversation with his friend.
I’m just trying to help the planet by preventing unwanted food from going to landfill. Butterscotch and Gingersnap were the same. Somehow they had learnt how to tip Brett’s kitchen bin over so they can raid it for any leftovers. Clever boys.
