Brett’s Rule: Love me, Love my Cats

March 5th 2009 21:00

My friend Brett and I don’t have many rules when it concerns guests coming over to our places. Basically anything goes when friends are at my place. The only rule I have is that my friends be quiet so as to not disturb the neighbours. Brett is the same. There’s nothing more annoying than being invited to someone’s house and then being told not to do this and that. One or two rules is okay, several rules is getting pretty anal in my opinion.

So I was surprised – well, I shouldn’t have been, really – when Brett told me some of his friends don’t like cats. One friend, in particular, doesn’t know what to do whenever Butterscotch and Gingersnap approach him for some human company. When these two friendly Tonkinese cats approach him, he backs away. Brett old me he told his friend to deal with it and that if he wanted to hang out with him at his place, he better try and get along with his felines as they live in his house, too.

Wow! I was amazed by his loyalty to his babies; another person might have put the cats outside to accommodate their friend. I think if I was put in the same situation, I would have done the same thing.

Speaking of friends, my best friend Andrea keeps her tuxedo cat outside. Misty likes to lie in the sun, outside the pool gate. For some reason Andrea’s family have always let their cats live outdoors but with two children she has even more reason to do so: her son is allergic to Misty and is terrified of her. It’s such a shame to for this happen.

Well, it kind of makes sense that you don't want your guests come in and start kicking your cat or dogs around because they don't like that type of pets.

A friend of mine cannot come into my house at all because he is allergic to cats. Unfortunately he found out the hard way coming to my place for a party and ended up having trouble breathing!

Poor friend. I could understand why you would want to kick your cats out in a situation like that. But most of Brett's friends aren't allergic to cats so the moggies get to stay.

My friends all know to get along because the animals rule. I get really touchy when someone new comes, because I have seen people who are scared of animals lash out - punch or kick - when surprised by an animal. I wont tolerate my babies getting hurt just because people have ridiculous hang ups. If its a casual thing, people just have to get along, if its a party they get locked up safely.

That is really bad for people to react like that. No wonder I prefer animals to humans.
