Butterscotch and Gingersnap Have Been Evicted

The secret’s out: one day Brett’s property manager decided to pay him a surprise visit and discovered he was keeping cats on the premises. She ordered the cats to go and sent him a follow up letter.
Brett didn’t seem too worried although if it had been me, I would have been going crazy with wondering what to do with them. I told Brett that property managers can’t just turn up out of the blue – what if you hadn’t had the chance to tidy up the place?
My boys are so lovely. How could anyone look at them and say they have to go? Where is Brett supposed to put them, anyway? They are part of his family. And it’s not like they are doing any damage to the property. Luckily for Brett, Butterscotch and Gingersnap don’t scratch furniture or climb up the curtains. The only sin they have been guilty of is leaving lots of cat hair all over Brett’s cushions.
Which is more than I can say for my ex-neighbour’s Bombay cats. She bought them a scratching post but they ignored it in favour of the carpet. My neighbour would reprimand them every time they scratched the carpet. They also liked to scratch the side of her lounge. As much as I love them, I could understand how annoying this must be. I think the reason why they ignored the scratching post was because her cats were large – not fat – and could easily make the scratching post topple over if they ever used it. I have read in many cat books that cats don’t like flimsy scratching posts, so my neighbour would probably have to get a heavy duty one for these two to cope with.

I think Brett would have a case against the property manager as she can't turn up unannounced like that. Having said that, she has noticed the cats on her previous (announced) inspections. Brett told her he was catsitting for a friend so maybe that was why she decided to show up out of the blue.
