Butterscotch Ends up with oil on his Back

Look what happened to my poor baby. Like many cats, Butterscotch likes to sleep under cars.
Needless to say, it didn’t take long for him to end up with a long black streak on his body. I told Butterscotch’s owner, Brett, to bathe him.
“Cats don’t like water,” Brett said.
“True but he still needs to be bathed. What if he licks the oil off and it gets into his stomach?” I said. I could imagine my poor baby getting sick from all the oil.
I never found out whether Brett did get around to bathing his cat but the next time I saw Butterscotch he was as clean as a whistle.
“You shouldn’t let him sleep under cars,” I said. “What if he gets run over like Snowflake?” Snowflake was Brett’s first cat. Brett had adopted him and the two lived happily ever after until the day Brett accidentally ran him over. I know I sounded like a nagging wife but I’d hate to see Butterscotch suffer the same fate. Brett’s nephew had been heartbroken when he found out. Who wouldn’t be?
It’s a shame Brett seems so laid back about his cats. If they were mine, I would never let them out of my sight just as I have a nagging suspicion Butterscotch’s cleanliness had more to do with his tongue than a bath. If that was the case, I’m surprised he didn’t get poisoned. The oil couldn’t have tasted nice or have been good for him.
