Butterscotch Has Been Found!
June 9th 2008 21:00
Last Friday I caught up with my friend Brett. He looked pleased to see me. I was scared to ask about his missing cat Butterscotch but in the end I had to know. Brett looked so excited I hoped that meant he came to tell me he had found out what had happened to his pet which was, indeed, the case.
A few hours before, he had received a call from a woman who lived a block away saying she had seen a cream Tonkinese cat in her backyard the day before. The cat had been fighting with her cat and eating her cat’s food so she shooed him away. The next day she happened to see a poster Brett put up with a photo of Butterscotch. She immediately recognized the cat and felt terrible she had shooed him away the day before. Luckily enough, when she came home she found Butterscotch hanging around her backyard again. She called Brett.
Brett came as soon as he could. He could see piles of junk but no Butterscotch. He then called out his name. Suddenly a creamy cat’s head popped out from amongst the junk. Brett stood there, sensing his pet was frightened. Butterscotch slowly came out and made his way towards Brett. When he came close enough, Brett grabbed him and carried him home. He was scrawny and hungry. He had also lost weight and was dirty. Brett didn’t care. As soon as he got Butterscotch home, the cat raced out of his arms to reunite with his brother, Gingersnap.
I wish I could say it had been a joyful reunion but it wasn’t to be that way. Gingersnap had been going crazy over the four days his brother had been missing. He kept purring and running up to Brett, constantly wanting attention. Now that his brother was back, Gingersnap was hoping things would return back to normal. Instead, he was greeted with the sight of Brett fussing over his mischievous brother. Feeling abandoned, Gingersnap started sulking.
Meanwhile, Butterscotch has been having the time of his life. Brett has been giving him his favourite snacks. For once in his life, Brett says Butterscotch isn’t interested in getting into mischief. All he wants to do is stay inside and lie on Brett’s lap. It was as if the two cats had undergone a role reversal. Brett has also been trying to shower Gingersnap with more attention. Let’s hope things get back to normal for these two brothers soon.
