Cat with a Cigarette in its Mouth

My sister found a picture of a grey Persian cat with a cigarette hanging from its mouth. We both thought it was hilarious. I’ve printed it out and have it hanging at my workstation. Many a colleague has asked me if the picture is actually real. That, I cannot answer but I would love to know. Did someone actually stick a cigarette in the cat’s mouth? That seems awfully cruel. Or did they simply digitally alter the image? I’ve noticed there’s a shadow of the cigarette on the cat so if the cigarette was digitally placed there, whoever did it did a very convincing job.
