Caterpillar Alley

Near my place is a small laneway that people use as a short cut to get to Potts Point. I sometimes use it too.
I have nicknamed this place caterpillar alley as sometimes I see caterpillars on the ground. They are always the same type: black hairy ones just like this one HERE. One time I saw so many I had to watch where I put my feet, as I didn’t want to make contact with them. I wish I could say this was due to my concern for their wellbeing but it was more to do with my caterpillar phobia. Another time I saw lots of squashed ones on the ground. This gave me the willies. Again, I had to watch where I stepped in case I came across a live one. Nor did I want to step on a squashed one. I also had to watch where I put my hand as there were some steps nearby with a hand rail running alongside the wall. What if I had put my hand on top of a caterpillar? The thought just makes me shudder.
When my sister was little she loved to stomp on caterpillars. She liked to see their green guts ooze out of their squashed bodies. In contrast, I avoided them. Eventually my sister outgrew this behaviour and also avoids caterpillars. One of her favourite photos is of her posing in a graduation cap and gown. There’s just one problem…at the bottom of the photo is a long black hairy caterpillar. To this day, my sister complains about it even though you can now Photoshop it out.

I am glad I'm not the only one who finds caterpillars ugly. I think the ones that evolve into moths are the worst.
Thanks for dropping by.
