“I hate it when people say that cats are stupid,” I whined to Fred one afternoon. “They’re not. They just prefer to chill out. And they can be so loving. Just look at Brett’s cats: when I go to the toilet, they come with me and watch me while I do my business. If I’m lucky, they will use the kitty litter at the same time.”
“Dogs are stupid,” said Fred. “Just look at them: they become guard dogs, sniffer dogs, army dogs, racing dogs. Cats know better than to kowtow towards humans. You ask a cat to do something and it will say, ‘Stuff you.’” On this occasion, Fred was particularly cheerful as he had finally sighted Sasha the Pussycat. “I managed to get two pats,” said Fred. “I didn’t stroke him or her for too long as some cats don’t like that.”
“Yeah,” I agreed. “Just look at the Grouchy Tuxedo Cat. She will bite if you stroke her too long.”
