Cruel Animal Videos on Youtube

Whilst searching on Wikipedia, I came across the following web page which says that Youtube doesn’t seem to remove them from their web site as quickly as they would have with those that are infringing copyright or contain sexual images.

Doing a search on Youtube on the Camrose cat killing, I came across videos of cats being microwaved. Okay, so they were microwaved for only a few seconds and obviously the videos were supposed to be jokes, as when the ‘actors’ (if you could call them that) opened the microwave, out came a meal or what looked a liked a roasted chicken. The actors then ate the meat. I didn’t find them at all funny. They remind me of a silly skit Kenny Everett did in the early ‘80s of a dog being microwaved in a Chinese restaurant. Surely people can come up with something more creative than that?
In fact, I’ve never found TV shows that show pranks being funny either. As a child I hated Candid Camera. As an adult, I refuse to watch Australia’s Funniest Home Videos, even though my neighbour tries to get me to watch it when I am at her place. I don’t find it funny to watch kids falling off bicycles or injuring themselves in other way. I don’t even like the animal videos, even though they’re not being harmed. There’s something about the canned laughter in the background that kills any sense of fun involved. Meanwhile, my neighbour will be sitting there going, “Look! Look!” whenever an animal clip appears. Maybe I’m a snob but I find such shows pedestrian.
If I don’t find so-called humorous clips funny I’m definitely not going to find clips showing cruelty to animals funny. I was horrified when I read this:

What bothers me the most is the lack of empathy involved. Logically speaking, for someone to find such videos funny, they have to suspend their empathy long enough to be able to appreciate the ‘humour’. You would have to forget the person or animal is feeling pain or, at least, embarrassment – something I find hard to do.
