Did You Know? Little Bits of Animal Information

At a recent visit to the new Great Southern Oceans marine life enclosure at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo, I found a sign saying ships often collide with whales, causing the poor whales to have a headache.
This reminds me of a story a colleague at my first job told me. Betsy had a German Shepherd in her backyard. One day she came home only to find it had a black eye. She figured some mean person must have gotten into her backyard and punched the dog in the face but she couldn’t figure out why someone could be so cruel.
“Was the dog’s eye actually black?” asked another colleague.
“Yes,” Betsy said, still upset.
The girl couldn’t help but giggle. “Imagine getting a black eye just like a human. I wonder if you dog also has a headache.”
At the same workplace was a lady called Clara who had Dalmatians. She loved to show me photos of her beloved dogs, which she had raised from puppies. She told me Dalmatians are born white but the dots appear and become larger and darker as they get older.
