Do You Think People Have a Right to Judge Others on How Much Time They Spend With Their Pets?

I once knew a woman who used to moan and groan about an acquaintance’s cat. The problem was her acquaintance worked full-time and then liked to go out after work, leaving little time for her cat.
I had seen the cat a few times. It was always in good condition and was locked up inside her owner’s house whenever she was away. Okay, so the cat could do with a bit of company – human or feline - but when you compare it to animals being tortured or killed, you could hardly say the owner was being neglectful.
The woman who did the complaining had retired so she was home all day with her pets. From that perspective, it was probably all too easy for her to judge other people. She kept complaining to me about her acquaintance but to my knowledge, never brought up any of her concerns with her directly.
Perhaps this was a case of someone having too much time on her hands?
Luckily for me, the woman and her acquaintance soon fell out. At around the same time, the acquaintance moved away, taking her cat with her. Things now became a case of out of sight, out of mind which then led to out of mouth.
Looking back, I can’t help but wonder what gives this woman the right to judge other people? And what business was it of hers, anyway?
It’s a far cry from a situation one of my old colleagues is currently dealing with. He comes home every night to a lonely cat who cries out in the hallway, begging to be fed. My old colleague is trying to do the right thing by looking after the cat and reporting the problem to the real estate agent. In this case, I can’t blame him for wanting to get involved.
Do you think that woman had a right to judge others?

To a dog that is a social animal this can be mental and emotional abuse. To a cat it can make them mean, wild and feral due to lack of socialization.
Animals can be abused by humans who mean well but have little knowledge of their husbandry..

Actually you're right. While the whole point of my post was that cat was obviously being looked after as it was in good condition and that I thought the cat owner's acquaintance had no right to judge her, being left alone for long hours is also neglectful psychologically.

The psychological thing is constant with us. We do our best, but with so many animals sometimes we have to inconveniance them. I dont like it, but so long as everyones comfortable, its got to be enough.
