Doghater? Who, me?
June 23rd 2011 21:00
“You don’t like dogs, do you?” asked Brett.
“Of course I do. I like all animals except for humans.”
“Are you changing camps?” asked Fred in an accusatory voice when he spotted me with a dog book in my hand.
“Of course not,” I said. “This author’s really good. He writes about how animals grieve for one another. In one chapter, he writes about cats which is why I bought this book.”
I can’t believe people think I hate dogs. Who says one has to stick to one species at a time?
That said, I was surprised when Brett acquired the boys from the local cat shelter. He had grown up with a dog so I naturally assumed he would gravitate towards them.
“Why cats?” I remember asking him at the time. “Why not a dog?”
“I like their independence,” said Brett.
This is the book that caused Fred’s furore at my “betrayal”: HERE .
