They are just like humans. Do cats get B.O. as well?

I have yet to come across a cat with bad breath. Tuna breath, yes, but not bad breath. I can handle the tuna smell as I know if it wasn’t for the food they eat, cats wouldn’t have bad breath at all.

Same goes for humans. I have a friend who works with someone with really bad breath. She says there are two types of bad breath: there’s what she calls situational bad breath i.e. having bad breath after eating spicy foods such as garlic. My friend says situational bad breath can be excused as you know that it’s only due to what the person has eaten.

And then there’s the other type of bad breath that she hasn’t actually given a name to…the type where the person constantly has bad breath regardless of what they eat.

I can relate to her comments as years ago, I also worked with someone who had bad breath. The funny thing was, this lady used to complain about other people who had bad breath. Sometimes I felt like saying, just look at yourself before you judge other people, but I didn’t want to hurt her feelings. Nor did I want to be the messenger. Who wants to be told their breath stinks?

I remember seeing a comedian on TV talking about this subject. He was talking about how people with bad breath can tell if they have bad breath by breathing into their hand. The problem was, said the comedian, how does one know whether it’s their breath that smells or their hand?

Keeping in mind what that comedian said, I now have a complex about bad breath. If it is true that you become accustomed to whatever smells are emanating from your body, then that would mean I wouldn’t notice if I did have bad breath, or B.O. for that matter. Which is why my friend Brett and I keep bottles of Listerine on hand, just in case.

Still, I’ve checked with my friend and she says I don’t have bad breath. I saw her a few days ago after having garlic steak. I told her not to stand too close in case I had B.B. She praised me for my B.B. awareness and said it was the situational kind, so it didn’t matter anyway.
