Feeding the GTC
May 4th 2009 21:00
My friend Fred reckons cats are users. He says they want to be left alone but when they’re hungry, they’ll come snuggling up to you. Once they have been fed, they go back to their usual aloof selves.
I got the chance to test this theory yesterday. Coming home, I noticed there was a bowl of water next to the Grouchy Tuxedo Cat. Beside the bowl was a small plate with a packet of cat food lying on top of it.
As soon as the GTC saw me, he came over to me, miaowing several times. He stood in front of me, letting me stroke his head.
Now I know from previous encounters that the GTC isn’t a particularly friendly cat so I knew he wanted something from me and it was pretty obvious what that something was.
I opened up the packet of moist cat food and poured it onto the plate. Immediately the GTC started gobbling it up. He was so hungry he even ate the pieces I accidentally dropped beside the plate. Once fed, he walked off and turned his back on me.
You win, Fred.
