Feeding the GTC
April 4th 2010 21:00
Coming home one hot summer afternoon, I noticed Blanche (AKA the Grouchy Tuxedo Cat) was sitting in her usual spot. I went over to say hello. She ignored me. I then noticed she had food but her water bowl was empty and dirty.
Exhausted, having walked several kilometres, I wondered what to do. I then asked myself what if it had been Butterscotch or Gingersnap. I would give them some water. If that wasn’t enough to prompt me to act, I could hear an RSPCA’s officer’s voice in my head from hours of watching RSPCA Animal Rescue: “As you can see, although there is food, the cat’s water bowl is empty and it’s a hot summer’s day. Although cats don’t need a lot of water, they can still suffer from dehydration…”
I went home, filled a plastic bottle with water and came back. Blanche had now curled up into a ball. I reached for her bowl and rinsed it out until it was clean before I filled it up with water.
