Feral Cat Pic

What a sour puss!
Would you mess with this puss? I certainly wouldn’t. But then again, I find animals hard to resist so maybe I would test the waters a bit.
I was flicking through my cat calendar one night when I came across this picture. As much as I love cats, I have to say this cat looks pretty feral. It looks sulky and not to be messed with. In fact, its surly, solemn gaze reminds me of how the Grouchy Tuxedo Cat used to look at me. It looks so feral, so unfriendly and so sad. It must be the eyes. And the funny spots on its muzzle. The poor thing’s nose looks dry and cracked.
But I must admit it is an interesting photo. It’s refreshing to see a photo of an unadorned cat. By this I mean it’s not dressed up to look pretty. I doubt the photographer would have spent hours waiting for the ‘right’ expression to appear on the cat’s face. It’s the opposite to those Rachael Hale books that feature lovely pictures of cats and dogs with pastel backgrounds. Hale’s photography is soft and gentle; the animals always looking pretty and in cute poses. (Is Hale the Anne Geddes of the animal world? I sure think so.) I could just see the cat sitting there and the photographer thinking, ‘Hmmm…this is not your typical cute or pretty cat. This would make a good photo.’ And the photographer would snap away, giving us this memorable shot.
