Gingersnap Follows his Brother’s Footsteps
April 13th 2009 21:00
Like any bad cat, Gingersnap has followed his feisty brother’s footsteps: he now bites people.
I’m not sure what triggered this. For as long as I’ve known him, Gingersnap has always been the sweeter of the two. The one who headbutts my hand. The one who purrs constantly and loudly around me. The one who insists on sleeping right next to his owner.
It was his brother who punched a hole in the bin. The same brother who worked out how to play with the vacuum cleaner by pushing its buttons. The same brother who later got lost and disappeared for several days, only to be found fighting with another cat after it wouldn’t let him take away its food.
So you can imagine how surprised I was when I went to stroke him one night and instead of the usual headbutting/purring action, I got a bite on my hand. Like his brother, Gingersnap didn’t bite very hard but it was shocking, nonetheless.
“Bad cat,” I said to him. He simply looked at me with his yellowy-green eyes.
Later on, while I was sitting on the lounge talking to my friend Brett, all of a sudden Gingersnap started on Butterscotch.
Butterscotch was sitting at his favourite resting spot when a big ball of fur hurled himself at him. The two ended up on the floor. Gingersnap started tussling with his brother. Butterscotch, annoyed, let out a yowl. Gingersnap kept wrestling with him until Butterscotch let out another huge yowl before escaping.
Later on, when I was having a rest, I felt something climb on top of me. I opened my eyes and there was Gingersnap. I felt the coolness of his paw as he climbed over the rest of my body. Just seeing him on top of me made up for the bite he gave me earlier on.
