Gingersnap Loses his Snaps
July 20th 2011 21:00
Okay, Gingersnap has finally had his teeth out. Brett is now having money problems but I was glad to hear he managed to save enough to get my boys proper veterinary care.
“They are prone to gingivitis,” said Brett while I screwed my face up. I have a phobia of dentists due to the fact my parents went to a dentist who refused to numb their jaws before sticking the needle in. Ever since then, I have associated dentists with torture. It didn’t help when my mother would come home with blood all over her blouse after having a tooth pulled.
One time, my father woke up with a loose tooth rolling around inside his mouth. When I told my dentist, he said, “His gingivitis must have been really bad for that to happen. You normally don’t see that.”
“My whole family will not go to the dentist unless they are in extreme pain. That’s why they have bad teeth,” I replied. Not to mention, in the case of one relative, bad breath. I think my sister and I are the only ones who bother with bi-annual checkups and the occasional filling.
I tried explaining the concept of fillings to my parents but they wouldn’t listen. They have a we-wait-until-we-are-in-agony -before-going-to-the-dentist policy. My parents now have no teeth.
When I mentioned this to my dentist, all he said was, “By then, it is too late. I always try to save the tooth rather than to yank it out.”
