Have You Seen This Cat?

June 4th 2008 21:00

Please come home!

My favourite cat, the very naughty Butterscotch has gone missing. I felt awful for my friend Brett when I heard the news. I called him and offered to help him locate his pet Tonk but he said it wasn’t necessary. He told me he told everyone he could think of to keep an eye out for him, including the local shops. I said maybe Butterscotch was being his usual mischievous self and would come back home but Brett said Butterscotch wouldn’t be gone for over a day. I feel awful and powerless.

I hope Butterscotch is okay. I hope he hasn’t been run over or catnapped. What sucks the most is I often warned Brett to think twice before letting his cats out of the house as God-knows-what could happen to them and now my fears have come true. Brett used to poo-poo my warnings but having lost pets of my own, I know how easily it is to lose something you love and how gutwrenching it is.

I wonder if a psychic could help locate Butterscotch. On the other hand, it would be devastating to be told by a psychic that he is now in the place Brett fondly calls “cat heaven”.

I also hope Butterscotch isn’t at an animal shelter, waiting to be put down. When I mentioned this possibility to Brett he seemed to think it was unlikely as Butterscotch has been micro-chipped so as long as someone scanned him, they would be able to access Brett’s details, which he has already registered with the Cat Protection Society and local council. Not only that, Butterscotch was wearing a collar for once in his life at the time he went missing so it would also be unlikely he’d be mistaken for a stray cat.

I know what Brett is going through. When my ducks went missing I was sad for days. It took me ages to get over the feelings of grief and guilt and self-blame. Needless to say, as a friend, I didn’t dare say “I told you so” to him as I know that’s the last thing anyone would want to hear at a time like this.

Please let me know if you happen to be in the Darlinghurst area and see this cat. Many thanks.
