Head Licking and Butting
November 4th 2010 21:00
Another Sunday, another day spent with my beloved boys, who I hadn’t seen for a couple of weeks. What a difference several weeks makes. Within seconds of arriving, I was covered by them: Butterscotch sat on my lap while Gingersnap walked past me and crept onto Brett’s lap. Brett had to run some errands so he left me there to cat sit them in the meantime.
Cat sitting never feels like a chore for me. The beauty of animals is that you can be there, shower them with love, feed them and play some games with them and they are happy. So simple compared to humans who can end up bickering over the smallest things.
So there I was, surfing the net on Brett’s computer when Butterscotch decided to literally walk all over the keyboard. It reminded me of the time my ex-neighbour told me how she could never read the newspaper without her cats sitting on each page. Why do cats do things like that? I gently brushed him aside. He then crept under the computer table and sat there, watching me all the time while I used the computer.
Later on, I decided to check up on Gingersnap. A search revealed he was hiding under Brett’s doona. I lifted the doona and he stared at me with his cat eyes. I decided to slowly close my eyes and blink at him. I did this several times but Gingersnap continued to stare at me. I then stared back at him even though I read in a cat book that this would be considered rude.
Minutes later, Butterscotch decided to join his best friend. He lay opposite Gingersnap and the two licked each other’s face and head. I got up close to the action, close enough to inhale their tuna breath before being rewarded by Butterscotch head butting my hand. How lovely.
