I have Fallen in Love with a Burnt Ginger Cat

I normally don’t bother taping TV shows as anything I like, I will buy when it comes out on DVD anyway. But one night, I felt compelled to tape the special Victorian bushfires episode of RSPCA Animal Rescue because I thought this burnt ginger cat was so cute.
The poor thing had no whiskers and his eyes seemed to be fused from the effects of the fire. He miaowed pitifully and I wanted to reach out and comfort him.
I was saddened to see the number of animals that had been left homeless. At the same time, I was in awe of the RSPCA’s attempts to save and re-home as many animals – wild and companion - as possible.
In the end, the ginger cat was reunited with his owners. They had lost everything in the Victorian bushfire but were glad to have each other. One of the owners said the cat was called Harry and it was touching to watch Harry begin purring the moment they were reunited. His loud purring sounded like an engine and it reminded me of Gingersnap – another loud purer.
There was something so calming and soothing about Harry and any other cat purring. I know cats often purr to comfort themselves but do they also know it has a similar effect on humans?
