In Sickness and in Health

Catching up with Fred last weekend, I found out that one of my ex-neighbour’s cats is sick. Fred says the cat has been suffering from diarrhoea for several days. The vet was called and my neighbour is worried that he might need to be put to sleep.
“I don’t think she needs to worry,” says Fred. “It’s not as if he’s in a lot of pain. If he was in pain, he would let her know.”
I wondered how true that is as I have read that cats are stoic little creatures and they don’t like to show any signs of being in pain. That said, I have seen Butterscotch howl when Brett accidentally stepped on his tail one day.
Speaking of which, Brett is continuing to clean Butterscotch’s and Gingersnap’s teeth to combat their bad breath. He said they were resistant at first; he had to pry their mouth open but they are now used to it and actually enjoy the chicken flavoured toothpaste the vet told Brett to use. Let’s hope my boys’ breath freshens up soon and that my ex-neighbour’s cat makes a full recovery.
