Is Climbing Stairs bad for Dachshunds?

Coming home one day, I saw a man getting his two Dachshunds to climb up some stairs. I thought it was cute but when I told my ex-neighbour, she said, “That’s bad for them. They can hurt themselves by doing that.” She then paused before saying, “I know that man who walks his two Dachshunds. I’ve told him not to let them go up the stairs. I always do when I see people trying to do that with their Dachshunds.”
As a person who likes to keep to herself, I was shocked by her audacity. “Don’t they tell you to mind your own business?” I asked.
“No, they don’t mind,” she said.
I was reminded of this conversation when I was walking down the same stairs this morning. I saw a man getting his Dachshund to walk up the stairs. Beside him was another man who was carrying a small black and white fluffy dog in his arms. It was incongruous; even though the second dog was small, it was still larger than the Dachshund. If my ex-neighbour’s advice was correct then shouldn’t the Dachshund also be carried up the stairs? Which reminds me, I still didn’t know how sound my ex-neighbour’s advice was. A quick Google proved she was right. Just check out the Burke’s Backyard factsheet HERE.
