Lessons in Camouflage

February 8th 2011 21:00

Now that I’m getting close to hitting forty, my eye sight is deteriorating. Ditto Brett, who has always had 20/20 vision. It’s funny seeing both of us wearing glasses – me for my myopia while Brett wears them because he is long-sighted.

So it was no surprise when I had problems spotting many of the animals on a recent visit to Taronga Zoo. If it wasn’t for the fact I was surrounded by animal spotters who were only too eager to tell their children where the leopard/bird/fox was, I would not have seen much at all.

I was also amazed at how well camouflage works in nature. I would never have thought the amber coloured coat of a lion would have done much as far as camouflage was concerned but just check this out:

Can you spot the lioness?
