Look but Don’t Buy

My colleague has been trying for weeks to help me cut down my spending. Finally, after one $350 dress too many, he said, “No more shopping. Not even window shopping.”
“It’s okay to look if you don’t buy,” I countered.
Still, he has a point. I have set myself a spending budget and am trying hard to stick to it. Now that I have discovered the wonders of Jetoy cat-themed products, I would rather spend my money on their items instead of clothes.
So one night after work and a few days before I was due to get paid, I went to Zakka House, the store that sells Jetoy products, in Chinatown. Because I had my budget to stick to, it took me half an hour to decide what to get. The staff now know me and keep commenting on how much I love Jetoy – and I’m not the only one.
Browsing that night, I heard a woman say to her child in Cantonese, “Isn’t that cat lovely? Would you like me to get you one? I will the next time we come here.” I couldn’t help but smile. The Cantonese word for cat is mao, which is pronounced “m-ow”. How purr-fect.
