Look at What’s in my Neighbourhood

While Brett is sulking about living away from the inner city, I am loving every minute of it (sorry, Brett). I love where I live even more now that I know artist Rod McRae’s taxidermy installation is currently on display at the King Street Gallery just on the edge of Kings Cross. I have been spending as much time as I can admiring the majestic lioness who fronts the gallery. I swear I have, for the second time of my life, fallen in love: This time, with a lioness (don’t tell Butterscotch). (That said, if Butterscotch knew, he would be no match against a living lioness. “Just look at the size of those paws,” I said to Fred when I got him to accompany me to the exhibition. “Just one swipe and you’d be dead.”)
When I told Fred we were both living near a stuffed lioness, he didn’t seem to believe me at first.
“Is it an actual lion?”
“Yes,” I said. “A dead one. Actually, it’s a lioness.”
Fred screwed his face up. Despite being an avid viewer of Embarrassing Bodies, he still has a phobia of anything even remotely related to medicine and veterinary science.
“Is it a lion or a lioness?”
“A lioness.”
“It would be better if it was a lion,” said Fred. “Then you could admire the mane.”
“Nah! I prefer to look at a lioness,” I replied, thinking how messy the mane looks. My husband does have some beautiful relatives.
