Missing Bird
September 5th 2011 21:00
It’s amazing how some people consider certain animals more important than others.
Walking around the Darlinghurst area, I suddenly spotted a missing animal poster. I stopped to take a look at it.
“It’s just a bird,” said Fred dismissively. “Not a pussy cat.”
So what?
“Everyone knows that birds fly,” continued Fred. “So if it went missing, it must have been let out of its cage.”
“And it’s not going to come back,” I said mournfully, thinking of the time my idiotic mother decided to let my sister’s prized budgie out of its cage to see if it would return. Of course it didn’t. My sister was peed off for days.
“Oh, some do,” said Fred.
Like what? The only ones I can think of are the birds at the Taronga Zoo bird show. They always seem to return to their (zoo)keepers.

The birds at Taronga Zoo are extremely well trained, and the rarer ones are equipped with radio transmitters just in case something goes wrong.
