More Gross School Experiments

Oh, the dreadful things they make you do at school!
I was telling a colleague about the time my doctor told me he had to operate on a cat while he was studying anatomy at university. I was pondering about how ethical it was especially if it was a healthy cat that was being cut open for no reason other than for medical students to see its organs. This led to a water cooler discussion with another colleague about gross science experiments they had to do at school. The first colleague, who went to school in China, said she had to find a living worm, kill it and then dissect it. She had no problems doing that. Later on her school had a science competition. Each entrant was given one hour to do the same thing with a fish.
The other colleague went to school in Indonesia. He told us at school his science teacher had a live rabbit with him. He got a bucket of water and placed the rabbit inside it and put the lid over it. He then pressed down on the lid to stop the rabbit from escaping until it died. Once it had passed away, the teacher got one of the students to dissect it.
Shocked, I told both colleagues I thought their teachers were disgusting. I feel sorry for the poor animals, especially the rabbit. What a terrible way to die. My colleague said she entered the competition because she was interested in (human) medicine. In that case, go and watch a human being operated on instead of playing around with animals!
