My Best Friend’s Deaf Cat

When we were kids my best friend was telling me about how her cat had given birth to some white kittens.
"One of them is deaf," she said.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"I gave them an ear bashing."
"Really? How?"
"I picked each one up and screamed at it and this one didn't react."
At the time, I thought her explanation was hilarious. Now I feel sorry for the poor thing. Imagined being screamed at just so its owner can see if it was deaf. Surely there must be another way to do this. But then again, I’ve heard that white cats tend to be deaf. It is due to genetics, just as torties tend to be female. I did a Google and found the following web page which I thought was interesting:
