My Colleague’s Neighbour’s Whiney Cat (part 2)
November 12th 2008 21:00
After a few more days of putting up with his neighbour’s whiney cat, my colleague had had enough. He told me the cat will miaow and miaow until its owner comes home at 10pm each night. So my colleague came up with a plan: since he didn’t know which unit the cat belonged to, he wrote a note telling the owner her cat miaows outside each unit until someone feeds it or she comes home, which every occurs first. He then asked her to take better care of her cat, else he would report her. He then attached the note to the back of the cat’s collar. When he told me this I couldn’t help laughing; it sounded so cute!
But the situation was far from funny. My colleague also asked me, should the situation continue, who he should report his neighbour to and what to feed the cat. Now I am by no means a cat expert. My knowledge of them has come from my (limited) time spent with my ex-neighbour’s and friend’s cats as well as from reading many cat books. At the same time, I was flattered he would come to me for advice. I said since it sounded like a case of animal neglect, he could report her to the RSPCA. Alternatively, he could go to her landlord but that wasn’t going to necessarily address the issue of neglect.
In the end, my colleague didn’t have to do anything. When he came home that night, there was no cat in the hallway and no miaowing. He later found out the cat’s owner had come home at a reasonable hour and was hopefully spending more time with her cat.
I hope the cat is okay. My colleague said pets are a commitment and he couldn’t understand why someone like that would have a cat if she couldn’t take care of it. I couldn’t agree more.

I often get told I should sell a horse (or two) and the only one I could concievably sell is shakir, if he were fully healthy and could find a loving home I would do it, but I know his fate would be multiple owners and eventually the knacker yard. Being slightly brain damaged he is not exactly easy to look after. Plenty of horse people would have brutally sold him on, but I created him, I bred him, he is my responsability and I will not see him suffer.
