My new Hang out: the Australian Museum

I was terribly povo over my holidays. I had about $3,000 worth of bills to pay, most of them relating to my new pad. That meant I had to have an El Cheapo holiday which meant spending almost every day at El Cheapo places such as museums and art galleries.
I would spend my afternoons at the Art Gallery of NSW, looking at all the artworks before finding a seat in the Grand Courts where all the 19th century and prior European art is located. I would sit and read the many books I bought from Borders during their closing down sale.
Eventually, I got bored of the Art Gallery and that was when I decided to switch to the Australian Museum.
What brought this on was their Birds of Paradise exhibition. I had wanted to see it but by the time I found out about it, it was too late. But then I saw it mentioned as still showing on their Jurassic Lounge web site (that’s when the Museum is open at night). I rang the Museum and to my delight they said the Birds of Paradise exhibition had been extended. Lucky, lucky me!
It had been at least two years since my last visit to the Australian Museum and I found it wonderful to revisit their permanent exhibitions. I was also fascinated by the lush and complicated courtship rituals of the Birds of Paradise. I have now become a bird convert. I know, I know. My feline friends won’t be happy that I’m switching camps over to their prey but who says one has to remain loyal forever?
