A couple of posts ago I mentioned hearing a cat in a neighbouring unit. Well, a few nights ago I discovered the source of the miaowing: There I was, standing outside my door, keys in my hand, ready to go inside.
One of my neighbours arrived and opened her door. Immediately I heard miaowing. I also saw a black cat out of the corner of my eye. All I got was that five second glimpse before my neighbour shut the door. Not fair, I wanted to say. I want to meet your friend.
That said, I can’t blame her for being in a hurry to close the door. One, because cats are notorious for wanting to escape to the great outdoors where they become prey to cat-haters and cars – that’s if they don’t harm the wildlife first. Second, the body corporate has a strict no-pets policy. My human neighbour has no need to worry about me dobbing on her; there is nothing in it for me to see a feline out of a home.
