I had waited until the last Borders store closed before venturing back to Bondi Junction to get a particular cat book. I swore that I would spend all my weekends at Borders until they went before going anywhere else.
Back at Chatswood after an almost two month hiatus, I got my cat book before wandering off to have a browse at Angus and Robertson. Imagine my surprise to see the store was still closed. But hang on. Wait a minute. Something was not right. It was 11am so they should have been open by now. I had a closer look. Inside, the store had nothing but empty bookshelves. I figured they must have closed down the same time as Borders, since they are owned by the same company.
Shaking my head, I then headed back to the CBD. It makes me wonder how many other bricks and mortar shops are going to start closing down. Maybe it’s true there won’t be any bookshops left in five years’ time.
