and Postcard Cats by Libby Hall and Tom Phillips HERE. Both were carefully chosen for their quirkiness and beauty. In the case of the former, I was dazzled by the photography: dozens of cats are photographed in their scowling glory. Their eyes look electric. My colleague is right when he pointed out to me that when cats are annoyed, it really shows on their faces. Have you ever seen a scowling dog?
In the case of Postcard Cats, I liked the quaintness of looking at hundreds of Victorian cat postcards. As my ex-neighbour would say, they have that “old-worldly” look about them, taking one back to a time when life was simpler and where there was no such things as road rage, doof doof music or graffiti. The flipside to that is that the fields of medicine and dentistry were not as advanced as they are today; my mind shudders at the thought of having a tooth pulled without anaesthetic…
