Okay, so I Bit the Bullet

Being an animal (especially cat) lover does have its disadvantages. One is you often encounter people who tell you how much they hate cats. Another one is people asking if you can provide a home for their cat/kitten. The third (and biggest) one by far is the guilt you feel by saying no.
After encountering two people within days of each other asking me if I could provide a home for a spare kitten/cat I finally bit the bullet and contacted my real estate and asked them if they could ask my landlord if I can have a cat. It’s been a couple of days now and no response is forthcoming. Okay, I put it down to Christmas but I was actually really interested in the lovely tuxedo cat who was offered to me. She looked so calm and peaceful and beautiful. I was going to call her Barley, after a similar looking cat from the Warriors fantasy book series. So naturally, I wanted to do the right thing and make sure I could give Barley a proper home before I said yes to the adoption.
“Why can’t you just take her?” asked a friend.
“Because if I take her and my landlord finds out, he can kick me out. Then I end up without a home and then Barley also has no home which defeats the whole purpose,” was my response.
The next day, the person who was trying to find a new home for Barley told me he had already found someone to take her. I was disappointed but I could understand as he already knew my situation was a bit iffy. I was also surprised Barley found a new home so quickly. It’s good to see one animal has been saved from being sent to an animal shelter and possibly saved from being put down.
