One Boring Book

“Not Watership Down again!” cried my colleague when he spotted the cute volume on my desk. “It is such a boring book!”

Unfortunately I had to agree. I remember how much I hated this book in high school: the plot was boring and I couldn’t stand reading about rabbits that could talk. Years later, I put the latter down to prejudice and decided to give this well-known and well-loved classic another shot.

It started off well; at first I thought it was the rabbit equivalent of Erin Hunter’s Warriors cat novels, novels that also feature animals that can talk. But about a third of the way through, my mind would wander. I would re-read the chapters but my mind would still wander. Not good. Still, I managed to get to the end, although it took me three weeks. Bright eyes, indeed.
