One Giant Rabbit

How’s this for a big critter?

This brings back memories of my neighbour’s rabbit. When I was a teenager this stuck-up woman moved next door to us. She had two kids, a husband and this giant white rabbit called Bugsy (how’s that for creativity?) The husband was really friendly and down-to-earth but she was one cold fish. God knows what he saw in her.
Anyway, Bugsy used to fly over the fence and land in our backyard. We couldn’t get him to fly back over to his backyard so I used to call her at work and tell her. Eventually Bugsy ran away. No attempt was made to locate him. I know this for a fact as I never saw any posters or leaflets about a missing rabbit in the neighbourhood. Nor did she ever come and ask us if we had seen him. People like that shouldn’t have animals to begin with.
When my ducks disappeared, she was the first person I asked.
From what I was told, Bugsy was a gift from one of their friends. I’ve read in many pet books that people tend to value a pet they’ve bought more than one that they had gotten for free. Unfortunately in poor Bugsy’s case, this has turned out to be true.
