One Gloomy Afternoon at the Botanical Gardens
November 26th 2009 21:00
Armed with my latest Erin Hunter cat novel, I headed for the Royal Botanic Gardens one afternoon for a quiet place to sit and read. I had been there for about half an hour when I noticed a man and a woman walking up to where I was. I was not pleased. I had chosen this particular spot for its solitude and did not want to be disturbed.
The couple started to stand together kissing while another man turned up and started photographing them. Click, click. On and on it went. I was surprised the professional photographer didn’t ask me to move. Several photos later, the woman stopped to examine the photos on the camera.
“Aren’t they great?” asked the photographer. “You couldn’t even see a dead cat in that picture.”
WTF? What a tasteless comment. I went back to reading, hoping they would be done soon. When it was obviously they were intent on staying, I decided to go elsewhere. Butterscotch and Gingersnap would not be pleased if they knew I had been sitting near a cat hater.
