One Gory Cat Book
May 18th 2009 21:00
Having promised myself to stop buying cat books, I came across the Australian Edition of a Dutch book called Medical ABC for Cats HERE. It was inexpensive, practical and, more importantly, small. I justified my purchase by telling myself if I do decide to get a cat one day, I will definitely need this book as a reference tool. But don’t let its slim size fool you. This book is jammed packed with information, even if it can be confronting at times. For example, photos of cute and healthy felines have been juxtaposed with shots of sick and injured cats.
Like any medical text, this book covers a range of cat injuries/diseases from abscesses to wounds, and how to prevent and cure them. There are some graphic photos of a cat having a caesarean birth and another one with cat flu. Two photos I found particularly sad are of toothless cats. One of them had lost its teeth due to old age. Poor babies.
A must for those interested in a veterinary career and cat owners, in general (if they can stomach the photos).
