I’ll bet you probably didn’t know this. I definitely didn’t. I thought wearing silk garments was an environmentally friendly practice, far nicer than the cheap polyester clothing my sister prefers. And then I saw an exhibit at a museum about garment manufacturing and it said silkworms are killed during the production of silk. Who would have thought? Given the outcry against fur and leather goods, I am surprised there’s no similar outcry against silk.
But there’s hope. According to Wikipedia, artificial silks are available. Another alternative is ahimsa silk, which is wild silk that is made from the cocoons of wild and semi-wild silk moths. Does it feel and look as good? I hope so. If not, I can go back to buying cotton clothing instead.
