Single White Female, who me?

My sister thinks I went too far when I offered to pay Anastasia for photos of Butterscotch and Gingersnap.

“It’s one thing to ask for recent photos but to pay for them? That sounds stalkerish,” she said.

Really? How many times have I seen ads in the paper where people are looking for obscure items and they say they will pay costs?

Fred didn’t think it was weird. But then again, Fred is very conscious about taking up other people’s time so of course he often offers to pay people for things or favours he wants. That was the same with me. Plus I felt bad about Brett owing her money so it was my way of helping her recoup some of it back.

When I asked the always-down-to-earth and cat parent Andrea, she said, “Your message is longwinded but stalkerish, no.” She read it the same way as I had intended it to be read.

“You sound desperate,” said my sister. Of course I’m desperate! In the heat of the moment, overjoyed to get some news on my boys, of course I would try to see if I could get some photos of them. On the other hand...”If she’s a vet and a dog walker, she wouldn’t be checking her phone or email constantly like an office worker would. Maybe she will get back to you. Or, you can wait until you’ve spoken to Brett and then get in touch with her but I wouldn’t ring her again just in case she freaks out.”

“It’s not stalking,” Andrea re-assured me. “She must know that people get very concerned about their animals.

Of course, I don’t know anything about Anastasia’s circumstances any more than she does mine. Maybe she’s been sick. Maybe the Abyssinian cat parent hasn’t provided her with a photo of her cat yet. Maybe Butterscotch and Gingersnap’s new parent is a close friend or relative of hers which may explain her reluctance for her to rehome them to me should anything change. I just hope she doesn’t lump me into the same category as Brett.
