Smoky the Cat Survives Being Shot Thirteen Times
September 23rd 2009 21:00
My husband Butterscotch and I are not happy. One of his relatives has been shot in the face some thirteen times. He may be left permanently blind in one eye.
The Age story
Why do people have to be so cruel? I could almost feel the cat’s anguish. What was amazing was how Smoky the cat managed to survive the shooting and find his way back home.
My colleague heard me ranting about this when I saw it in the paper yesterday. He says I look for stories such as this one to reinforce my prejudice against the human race. My response was: What else am I supposed to do? Not read the paper? He then pointed out that when I read the paper there is bound to be stories of humans being cruel to one another or to animals.
When I see things like this, I don’t blame myself for not liking people in general.
I hope the police catch the perpetrator(s) and punish them to the full extent of the law. Unfortunately, as any regular viewer of RSPCA Animal Rescue would know, often people convicted of cruelty to animals get soft sentences and small fines. That said, I was pleased to see a cat owner calling the RSPCA to help rescue a small kitten that was trapped between a house and a boundary fence on last night’s RSPCA. So was my husband. He wishes every cat to be saved and to live a happy and fulfilling life.

Wow. That's so sad... poor kittykat. It's a miracle he's still alive but he'll be traumatized for life now.
