Sparkle the Pig

Don’t you hate it when you’re in the middle of watching something gripping on TV and someone interrupts you and you end up missing the whole story?
Several years ago I was watching a tabloid show called Hard Copy with my sister when they started showing a story about a dead pig called Sparkle. They then showed a little girl bawling her eyes out. I was waiting for the story to begin when my parents called me away to help them with something. By the time I got back, the story was well and truly over. I asked my sister for the juicy details. It was not as exciting as I had hoped: a little girl had a pet pig called Sparkle. One day a relative or family friend was at her property and thought the pig was to be eaten. The relative/friend killed and cooked it. The little girl was unaware of what had happened until dinner time came.
Looking back, this story sounds a little far fetched. Wouldn’t the relative/friend have checked with the family first before killing the pig? Wouldn’t the little girl have noticed Sparkle was missing? But then again, the relative/friend may not have been the brightest person on earth and decided to take it upon him/herself to kill the pig…
A few years later, my sister got herself and me a stuffed pig. She called hers Bacon but I called mine Sparkle in honour of that poor pig.
