Stare off
December 16th 2010 21:00
Now that it’s summer, I’ve been spending more time outside, walking and reading. One recent Saturday I must have walked about 30,000 foot steps. Exhausted, I could barely climb the stairs that lead to my street. No problem, I thought, I’ll just take my time.
Just as I was about to reach the top of the stairs, I noticed the Grouchy Tuxedo Cat staring at me from behind the rails on the side of the stairs. I stopped and miaowed at her. She ignored me but continued to stare at me. I blinked at her. Still no response. A lady stopped beside me and decided to check her out. The GTC’s only response was to stare at her as well.
“She looks grumpy,” the lady remarked.
“She often is,” I replied. “Sometimes she will bite people. I know because she almost bit me once.”
The lady smiled and walked on. I spent the next minute or so trying to communicate with the GTC and still got nowhere. Finally, I gave up. I stroked my aching calves and then slowly dragged my body to my place, a mere two hundred metres away. I took a hot shower, put lotion on my feet and then spent the rest of the day on my butt, reading a cat book.
