Stretching the Friendship

My best friend Andrea has a taboo: never enter into financial arrangements with friends. That includes lending, borrowing and giving money. If she wants to get rid of something, that’s exactly what she would do. Not sell it like some people I know.
So stuck with two copies of the same book (see previous post), I decided to see if I could offload a copy to Fred. Fred was the perfect choice as he loves cats and has no qualms about mixing friendship and money.
I asked him if he would be interested in acquiring a cat book.
“What sort of cat book?” he asked. “If it’s one of those which have weird cats then no. I can’t stand those Siamese-y, Oriental ones.”
“It doesn’t have many pure bred ones,” I replied. “It mainly has photos of tabby cats.”
“You mean your common garden variety moggie?”
“Yes.”
“Then I possibly might be interested. I would have to see it, of course.”
Given that the book in question weighs two and a half kilos, I took some photos of the cover and some of the pages to show Fred the next time I saw him.
Looking at the images, Fred was happy with the front cover. But as he looked at the other images, the complaining began.
“They’re athletic shots.”
“So?”
“I don’t like action shots of cats. I like seeing them just sitting there, looking cute.”
“So would you be interested?”
“No.”
Alright, alright.
